Your monthly round-up of the good stuff. Outdoor news, gear, events and more.
FAW is launching a print mag!
ISSUE 01 is landing in December (cue to set reminders). We’re grateful to be working with some seriously talented contributors on our first print release, stacking it full of stories, interviews and photography that explore how different people connect to the outdoors and what it means to them.
Secondhand gear guide
Marketing in the name of “innovation” has normalised replacing gear every few seasons. Ironically, this isn’t doing the planet any favours. Buying secondhand can reduce overproduction but outdoor pursuits put kit through the wringer, so how do you spot the good stuff, save a few quid and know what to avoid?
Emme Hayes writes a nifty how-to guide for buying used gear in Field Mag.
“Every purchase we redirect from new to used, from replace to repair, is a vote against overproduction and for a circular outdoor economy.”

The Ranch Training Camp
SATISFY released Tales from the Trail: a short about a team of pros being put through their paces at Diamond Cross Ranch, Wyoming. Trail running and cowboy aesthetics mix surprisingly well.
“A passage for uncovering a philosophy washed in river crossings, cold lake dips, and the rhythm of togetherness. Intervals through late-spring snow and early-summer mud. Moments of effort, stillness, and shared exploration.”
Street skiing in LDN
Peak Performance are teaming up with skier Max Palm to move mountains for the London ski crowd. On November 8th, they’re transforming Whitegrounds Skatepark into a street skiing haven, running free rail clinics and demos for the public (Londoners, book your slots here).
Peak are also running a free mobile ski service that will come to your door to get your kit mountain ready this winter.

Collabs are booming
Gramicci x Merrell, Finisterre x Snow Peak, On x REI x Beams… The list goes on. There’s a few key reasons for this trend: hype, shared credibility, technical meets lifestyle, hype again. One collab we’re keeping an eye on this month is the cross-pollination of two of our Swedish favourites: Haglöfs x 1000 skis. Militant and functional.
Gone Fishing
Angling duo Paul and Bob are back on our screens. In honour of their return, Proper Mag shared a selection of their favourite outerwear moments from the new series.
“Simms wading jackets. Peter Storm hard shells. Orvis fishing vests…There are some outfits this show is well worth hitting pause for”
Magic surfboards in a Brooklyn basement
Laura Thompson interviews the board builders who’ve turned Pilgrim Surf + Supply’s New York basement into an underground “shaping dungeon”. The crew - ranging from seasoned legends like Peter Schroff and Malcolm Campbell to experimental young guns like Derek ‘Diz’, Kobe Hughes, and Tom Morat - are rotating through the Brooklyn studio to design boards for NYC’s unique urban surf community. Read the full cut from from Highsnobiety here.
They blend engineering, instinct, and obsession to create “magic boards” - those deeply personal surfboards that feel like extensions of the rider.

Kendal Mountain Festival
KMF returns to Cumbria 20-23rd November. The festival celebrates outdoor and adventure culture with a diverse programme of feature films, talks, workshops and other events. The schedule is packed! One of many events that caught our attention is Merrell’s Trail Sonified: the UK’s first club night powered by trail running.
Through data sonification, we transformed runners’ Strava stats into a living soundtrack, using distance, elevation and duration to shape the music, and packaged it all with a distinct visual identity - Brandnation
Arc’teryx Winter Film Tour
The outdoor brand are on the road, stopping at 9 cities across Europe (Manchester and London included) to showcase a selection of inspiring projects ahead of Winter 25/26. Check the lineup and book your tickets here.
“Through film, immersive exhibitions, and inspiring stories, this is a celebration of the season that shapes us.”
