A round-up of the outdoor people, concepts and ideas that piqued our interest this month.
Not a bike team, it’s a movement
Rapha dropped Gravity, a short that follows the stories of Andrew Jackson, Dante Young, and Boo Johnson - three riders who are bringing fresh style and vision to cycling through their collective Something DFRNT. Friends from differing paths, joined by a love for exploring the varied scenes of LA on two wheels.
“The bike is your paintbrush, the city is your canvas”
For the ultra-curious
The Peak Divide is a two-day, 76km runpacking trip across the Peak District, from Manchester to Sheffield. For anyone who has wondered what big back-to-back days outdoors might be like, without the race pressure. Co-founder Tom Reynolds explains its beginnings here. Who’s down for April 2026?
“An adventure for the ultra-curious runner”

400-miler for Alzheimer’s
While we’re on the topic of ultras, Elsey Davis set off on a 400-mile coastal run around Cornwall in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK. The route will see her climb a tasty 18,000m in elevation under seven days, with an aim to set a Fastest Known Time (FKT). Show some love here.
“Running helps anchor me when things feel adrift. This is my way of honouring my mum and hopefully showing others they’re not alone.”
Origins of the Archaeopteryx
In a world where brands are shifting to ever more minimalist logo designs, the iconic Archaeopteryx fossil (kudos if you can pronounce this) stands out. But what is it and where did it come from? The Outdoor Recreation Archive investigate with Arc’teryx logo designer, Michael Hofler, on the History of Gear pod. Listen on Spotify here.

Watching Trees 2026
The weekend sonic ramble in the North Wiltshire Countryside returns in 2026. Created by Sub Club legends Optimo, the festival is a woodland-based genre-blending experience like no other. If this sounds like your thing, sign up to the mailing list here. Tickets on sale 1st October.

September Studio x The North Face
A collab between a florist and an outdoor brand is not one you see everyday. To celebrate The North Face’s floral-inspired trail kit, they sent September Studio up into the mountains in search of alpine flowers.
“The higher you go, the wilder the arrangement.”
New Mountain Magazine
NMM Issue 02 launched. This print only adventure mag features unique, personality-led outdoor narratives from 30 contributors, accompanied by beautiful shots and a refreshingly clean aesthetic. Pick up a copy here.
States of Elevation
Mountain man Killian Jornet is back with another superhuman quest: to connect all the 14,000-foot peaks (14ers) of the American West using biking and running. The ‘States of Elevation’ project will begin in Colorado and take him across California and Washington. Dakota Jones wrote an insightful and humbling piece on what it’s like to train with Killian. Read here.
“I realized that his experiences in the mountains had not simply taught him the skills necessary for moving through technical terrain. They had also taught him the value of a team, and how to take care of the people he goes into the mountains with.”

LISTERS: Extreme birdwatching
A world we never knew existed. LISTERS follows brothers Owen and Quentin as they throw themselves binos first into a ‘Big Year’, attempting to identify as many bird species as possible in 365 days. Guaranteed to crack a smile, it’s a hilarious account of a year spent living in a used minivan, learning everything there is to know about competitive birding. Watch for free here.
“Somewhere far down the slippery slope, we look back and realise how far we have come from the simple appreciation of birds”
Winter 25/26
It’s October and it’s snowing in the Alps, which means winter 25/26 is on the doorstep. To keep you in the loop this season, Chloe Harlig at Slopeside offers a year-round dispatch on ski culture covering mountain news, winter trends, skiwear and overall alpine living. Last season, she did a great interview with Zach Seely, founder of Hard Pack Magazine. Read here.
